monkeydelarge: What was the purpose of this post? Sympathy? If you don't want to be called a troll anymore then stop trolling. It's as simple as that.
avatar
tinyE: You logged into a thread about a mass murderer in Europe going on hunger strike to complain about government spending in the United States. And I'm the troll?
Not true and I suggest you look up the definitions for troll and trolling.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=troll
"One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument"
That sums up at least 50% of your posts. I used to think you weren't a troll, just a really annoying harmless person but when you revealed to me how amused you were from pissing me off, you revealed your true nature. It's obvious now, you do this on purpose to cause chaos. You like to feed off rage like some kind of vampire.

sauvignon1: So if I go on a mass shooting in Norway, I get to play video games and work out at the gym?
avatar
monkeydelarge: You are missing the point of Norwegian prisons. They are not there to punish people with torture until they are so twisted and evil, they make the Joker from Batman look like a nice guy and then set them free. They are there to try to turn criminals into civilized people. Of course, I doubt this works for everyone. Some people can never become civilized, I imagine.
It sounds like this guy is *already* the Joker, though.
avatar
gbaz69: Yes spending money on the unempoyed/homeless/staving would be better then spending it on a mass murderer.
avatar
Petrell: There's no death penalty in norway so lifetime imprisonment without change of parole is only alternative.

avatar
gbaz69: I wonder if people have commited crimes, just to goto jail, to get a roof over their heads and food to eat.
avatar
Petrell: I posted couple fun facts about nordic criminal re-educ... err I mean prison system above.
Norway doesn't have a sentence of life without parole, either.

He was sentenced to 21 years, eligible for parole after 10 and reviewed every 5 years thereafter. That is their maximum sentence, which may have been legislated without reflection on the possibility of cases like his.

However, he will continue to be confined so long as their equivalent of a parole board keeps finding him unsuitable for release. This means that unless he quits pulling stunts like this and starts to play at being rehabilitated, he will remain in prison for life.

True, considering how many people he killed for no good reason.

It'd be a lot better if they were. But they're not some comic book character, just a profoundly broken human being who decided to take it out on a whole lot of people who probably didn't deserve to be killed. If anything, that kind of demand really exemplifies how screwed up they are mentally. If you've taken out a school bus worth of people and your big problem is that your video game system's outdated? You are fucked in the head beyond any and all capacity for others to put you back together.

Problem is, he's not crazy, and he's not alone. He's not a real-life Joker or "profoundly broken". He's a neo-Nazi, and there are many like him who would relish the prospect of how his being made a martyr would add to their numbers and power.

The real problem here is much deeper than whether Breivik's sentence or prison life is sufficiently punitive.

Norway wouldn't give him the death penalty. Next best thing.

I think that is why stoicsentry said he is already the Joker because the Joker is so fucked in the head, the Joker too would only be thinking about getting a better game console system after slaughtering a school bus worth of people.

To me, crazy with an agenda still counts as crazy. Do whatever the hell you want, be as moronic as you want since the technology doesn't yet exist to recognize such imbeciles and have them cordoned off from the population, but once you decide that killing everyone else off to show off how much better you are is a good way to go? You're nuts. The sad thing is that the idea of actually trying to rehabilitate people sounds a hell of a lot better than simply leaving them in a concrete box, but when a true freak like this guy is whining about video games and trying to bend the system over with a guilt trip when he should have been killed on sight? Makes the entire concept look bad at a glance.

So keeping him alive is political? That if he somehow ends up dead he will inspire others to commit deeds like he did? I would say that's a more acceptable reason to keep him alive other than "death penalty is so cruel and barbaric".

You always are. If you weren't, my world would implode.

Yeah he makes the entire concept look bad but in reality, it's not a bad concept. It just doesn't work for soulless people.

I agree. Definitely needs a more refined concept, though. The level of resources being wasted on a freak when there are people who aren't complete scum, maybe people who've just made a bad choice and really do want to do something of value with their lives, that just doesn't work. And it's a lot harder to give the idea partial credit for effort when the people in charge look like they can't prioritize it properly.

I think it would be a good idea if there were two types of prisons there. Prisons for prisoners who can one day be a part of society again and prisons for people like Anders Behring Breivik(the standard U.S. type prison).

shove a pipe through his ass, feed him via pipe and lets see how the fuker commits hunger strike, though he has the benefit of a shit strike, eventually shit will win and real shit will come out of his mouth as it always should have been, maybe the judges can smell a better decision then.

Its sad that fukin corrupt and criminal has more say and right then the victims
