nijuu: And methinks trying to get the jump on the Ouya idea...
My thought exactly.

SimonG: That it will. But the fact that Nvidia is not giving any indication yet is probably not a good
sign.
I won't read too much into this. I can't recall a major console (or many other devices, like Microsoft's Surface) which had a price listed when it was first announced.

It's possible, but mu guess is that many companies saw this direction at around the same time. GameStick that's currently being Kickstarted has also started development before Ouya was made public.

The interesting one will be E3, indications point that the new xbox has taped out and gone into full production with it's release being MS's focal point at E3 apparently WITH a price...
ps4 was slated for 2015 wasn't it? unless they get out first or provide backward compatibility their going to lose this generation too... they need to win the PlayStation needs a home-run after all the crap the PS3 caused...

If the 720 is backwards compat its over, the ps3 might as well hang its hat and give up... WiiU will disappear into mediocrity.

For the first time i would buy an Xbox if they played both 720 and 360 games.

I predict that the 720 will run on some iteration of Win 8 and will have (optionally) most functions of a PC. As in simple office support and proper internet abilities. It will probably be a "closed of PC" rather than a classic console.

And I am still unsure about a PS4. Sony is in very deep trouble. And stemming a "future tech console" is always an investment. One Sony simply can't handle right now. Nintendo will again ignore the hardware race and target the "casual" demographic. Which made the Wii one of the most profitable consoles of all times.

wodmarach: I'd place the graphics around an old NV6600
Sounds like a reasonable estimate. I really have to wonder about that "72 custom NVIDIA GeForce™ GPU cores -- or six times the GPU horsepower of Tegra 3" in their press release. That would suggest that the cores run at the same speed as in the Tegra 3, which I think is strange. Perhaps it's to save power, but it's still strange. (I think that the GeForce 6600 estimate is reasonable because of this lower clock and the smaller RAM bus.)

Anyway, I agree, probably a bit too far from a console, and I guess I was too enthusiastic to proclaim this chip reaches console levels. Still should be able to run some decent games. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Neat idea, could play PC games on the fly anywhere in the house. Won't be worth the cost to me though, I'm sure.
All of this is just really making me want the new actual next generation of consoles from Sony and MS, these lowcost weaksauce consoles are just not cutting it for me

Evidence points to no PS4 back compatability (change of CPU andGPU supplier points to this, you can usually work around 1 but 2 is harder see 360's back compat), though it's rumoured to have moved up to next year.

Ugh, I don't like the idea of a touch screen in a clamshell design. There's a reason the bottom screen is the touch screen on a DS and the Vita isn't clamshell.

The rumour was that they're going to provide "backward compatibility" via streaming.

Possibly. Question is - ideas at the same time or "Hey our competitors got a new idea.Lets copy"
sounds more like it. Wish they would make something innovative that many people would want.
Something that just works, customers want (look at the iphone - its simple. works. people like
it and everyone follows the sheep.not a good thing but works for Apple..but i digress).

Id actually like another handheld device rather than console..:)

Why do you think it's more likely? It's certainly possible that they got the idea from someone else, everyone is influenced by what they read and hear. But Ouya? More likely they were influenced by handheld Android consoles which came long before Ouya, just like I'm sure Ouya was influenced by them as well as by the multitude of multimedia Android "computers".

If anything, Shield is the most innovative Android console or multimedia device, both in terms of form and in terms of functionality. Is it the best design? I don't know? Will it be the most successful? I don't know. But it's IMO more innovative than Ouya and it's IMO ludicrous to say the idea came from Ouya specifically.

Are you sure about that?
