Well, where else would it be banned?
Honestly, I'm sick and tired of stupid people like the censors here and there and those jerks who honestly think they're doing good to the world because of what they're doing, banning games like there's no tomorrow. I've always said the best rating system is common sense, but obviously there are those few Australians who don't have it.
Valve are probably breaking out the champagne already.
It's true that the common sense is the best rating system....but there is a problem that the common sense is not so common. It is pretty rare, actually (in government, that is).
Yeah we're the most annoyed!
I think the issue is that the market really isn't as big as in other countries. You don't have lobbies doing the work, while the government still wants to censor material that should be reclassified as R18+

I'd say it's pretty scarce everywhere. It's just more obvious in government.

It's a few people (Luddites) in the OFLC. I like to think the greater population, especially the gaming population here which is primarily adults over 18 are better than this. But I'll leave my normal ranting for the likes of twitter, OFLC mostly though inconsistently does their job, but we/they can't do that much so blame Michael Atkinson for not letting us have our R18 rating.
This Joins Necrovision (altered and allowed for sale) and Risen (no word yet) as two other major games classed RC and banned for sale here. It's likely we will get a safe version, where the violence is toned down or the zombies turn into pretty flowers instead of gibs...

Or like Germany, where shooting an enemy in TF2 has them explode into car tires.
I just hope that they don't start milding down the game like Bethesda did with Fallout 3. They removed the drug references by renaming them to less obvious ones, yet everyone knows what's behind those silly names....
Fuck Australia. I guess Germany isn't going to ban the game, as they can't replace zombies with...umm....zombies? I guess they still could make the blood green...
I don't get it why there cannot be adult games though there are LOTS AND LOTS of adult movies. Ofc, games are interactive and you are the one that "pulls the trigger" but what can you do? People went crazy before video games for less obvious reasons. Banning games will not stop people going crazy. And parents should talk with their kids about what they play. Of course they cannot stop everything and keep their children in cotton. They should face life as it is but know what is real and what is not. And have someone to talk to when they don't feel comfortable with something.
We are going to be the next generation of parents. Lets try to make the world bit better and keep ourselves reasonable. More on knowledge and reason than preaching with emotions and lack of knowledge...

Maybe in a few years, most politicians will have either stepped down from sex scandals, died in heart attacks, resigned because they've been bribed by lobbyists, and the people sent to replace them have actually played games before. And know what it's like.
I thought censorship was dictatorial stuff... =(

So if minors shouldn't see it, it's an instaban? That's worse than banning Ezri from the forums.
And in the US, the ESRB is OPTIONAL. You don't need a rating to sell a game. I'm not sure about PEGI though. This is ridiculous. This is what happens when you don't specify for increased freedoms for Christmas.
Heh. It's cheaper to import games from UK, anyway... :P

In Finland we have VET, Valtion elokuvatarkastamo, Finnish Board of Film Classification. They go through movies and games and give their ratings. Gladly we have 18 rating which basically means that if the movie/game doesn't have anything against the finnish laws, it can go though with that. Also if you don't run the release through VET, it automatically gets 18 rating. That happened for DVD box of TV serie "Little House on the Prairie". They refused to get it through VET as their fee was per minute. Later on they made a review on that and gave it 7 if my memory serves me right.
At least that is somehow reasonable and I don't know of any case of banning due to current laws (changed in 2001). Probably some really weird porn stuff have been caught in the net but other than that...

Yep. If a minor can potentially see a game like this. Bam! This is what happens when you don't have a rating for adults. "Games are for kids" is a prevailing attitude of many in power here. Same goes for anything animated and comics.
It's completely nuts though. While it may or not be good that a minors exposure to various material is prevented/limited/gradual, what about the freedom of Adults?
Australia is a nice place, but er... I think you can gather what is wrong with us.
