Catshade: Heh. It's cheaper to import games from UK, anyway... :P

...hahahaha! Common sense 'pwns' aussie tophats :D That's the spirit!...

michaelleung: And in the US, the ESRB is OPTIONAL. You don't need a rating to sell a game.

I heard that most retail stores in the US won't sell AO-rating games...Do they refuse to sell unclassified games, too?

I don't know. It just means they can't have that neat badge on the front that says E, T, M, or AO. It doesn't mean anything.
As I said to Ois on Twitter, this is one banning that is for their own good. Seeing how boring L4D was, this will save a few more souls dying of more boredom =P
If you're looking for a fun zombie based shooter, I would suggest Nation Red instead -- far cheaper with excellent developer support.
Granted it does look like a box full of shit but its a box full of shit that I SHOULD be able to buy damnit! Never had a game I want RCed but its only a matter of time

Ois: Australia is a nice place, but er... I think you can gather what is wrong with us.

We have an archaic rating system which worked perfectly well when cinema and home video was a novelty but the sheer quantity of media coupled with the idiotic "unanimous or gtfo" approach to reform has basically made the OFLC useless.
Atkinson is obviously aware of the effects on the economy and on the international appearance of australia (He'd fucking well better be, I wrote him a letter explaining it in detail) but frankly I think he's scared to change his position

I played Left 4 Dead 2 at PAX... Australia isn't missing out.
All it is, is a re-skinned L4D 1

Given that it's L4D DLC that somehow got a full game price tag slapped on it so that Valve can... divide the community.... yeah that doesn't make sense at all. But it's not surprising it's exactly the same damn thing. That's what it was intended to be after all.

now that would be interesting reading. Chance of seing it appear somewhere ;)
Well i think they've lost their minds. How is it that porn movies receive a 18+ rating and games get banned? that's why a lot of games get downloaded illegaly.
If it's banned it must be tickling to play it.
Valve must be running scared. Now entire governments are vowing to boycott L4D2!

That reminds me, Gabe is due to fly over to Australia to preview that user-made campaign. I wonder if this trip is about to become a whole lot more interesting?

He can't get arrested, if that's what you mean. There's not a single jail in the world that can hold him.

Ha! I woudn't envy the suspension on the police van that carted him off either.
Nah, I thought he might use the opportunity to ridicule the Australian government and their ultra-conservative backwards ways in governing a country that is otherwise quite progressive.

Just for that last bit, he just got himself an extra strip search at the airport.
