King's Bounty Series, Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg Series, Silent Storm S2, and other wargames 70% off!

War is, undeniably, a part of human nature. Or maybe even nature in general. Everywhere you look wars are being waged. Even in your own backyard you'll find ant colonies fighting each other in endless struggle for resources and living space. According to many theories war is the single most progressive force in human history. Whether we like it or not, the root of most technological, and even social advancement lie in the race for military strength. There is no wonder war fascinates us and holds a prominent place in our imagination. And--of course--all of that interest we take in it, is being expressed via computer games. Today, we invite you to join us for a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/1c_gsc_nival_1c_online_weekend_promo_310114]Wargaming Weekend with 18 excellent strategy and tactics titles offered whole 70% off. Let's take a brief look at some of the games, shall we?

King's Bounty: The Legend and its continuation, King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY play a lot like a Heroes of Might & Magic game. But simply calling them clones would be unjust. Saying that they're "genetically enhanced clone"--as one of our users called it--would be much more fair. The gameplay is full of unique ideas and the high-fantasy setting of the game has a very distinctive feel to it. With many, many hours of gameplay, innumerable tasks to complete, giant world to explore, and a great variety of enemies to defeat, those gems of a strategic-RPG truly deserves your attention. Yours for $2.99 and $5.99 respectively.

Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology are both extensive, realistic, and multifaceted strategy gems. Don't miss the opportunity to get yourself hours upon hours of excellent and challenging strategic gameplay that will test your skills as a military commander. Both games excel in portraying the reality of the World War II campaigns down to detailed unit specifics and equipment. You'll get a chance to recreate the most important battles that served as turning points of mankind's most terrifying conflict up to date. Once you finish all the engaging single-player scenarios, you can challenge your friends online or use the provided map editor to create your very own campaigns. They can be a part of your collection for only $2.99 each!

That's only a small part of our Wargaming Weekend promo. Head out to the promo page to be fully briefed on our offer and start planning the tactics on your approach. The offer lasts until Tuesday, February 4, at 4:59AM GMT. Over and out!
I gave up on Etherlords after several hours, because the game felt buggy and unbalanced. The sequel should be better though.

But I can wholeheartedly recommend the two King's Bounty games.
Which one do you suggest, Etherlords 1 or 2 ?

EDIT: lol pateralf ninja

gandalf.nho: I like RTSs like Age of Empires, what the ones in this promo are more close of this style and aren't difficult?
I'd recommend Cossacks and American Conquest, except battles are bigger (lots of units!) and less "Ages" (but there are many techs though).

IMHO, the Cossacks-American Conquest series are the best spiritual sequel of the Ages of Empire series, with Empire Earth (but in a different way, since EE isn't focused on eras).

Ghorpm: What both games have in common are spectacular battles - both you and your opponent have deck of different cards and you fight similarly to Magic: The Gathering.

Fenixp: I don't. Want. To. Spend. Money. You're an ass, you know that?
I'm glad to be of service to you :D

What I absolutely loved about those games is that you can't really create one universal deck and beat everybody with it (at least it's not possible at higher difficulties). You have to adjust your deck pretty often, try different strategies... And only a few cards are useless, you should find a good use for most of them. My favorites are those which influence each other: you summon a weak monster but its presence improves other monsters (only a specific type!) so a combination of a few mediocre warriors + an enhancer can create a powerful army. But it has a drawback - it's enough to kill/dispel the enhancer and all you have are a few mediocre warriors. Again.

I am even bigger ass right now, am I not? ;P

kiselev: In reality this is not "Wargaming Weekend promo", this is "Russian games promo".
All these games were developed or published by Russian companies with rare exceptions of a few games developed by companies from other CIS countries (anyway - Russian speaking as well).

This is weird though that in GOG versions of these games there are almost always no Russian language available!
Why is that the case?
Please add Russian language if you can - it is available for all these games.
Etherlords, Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm all have Russian available :)

Granted that's not all of the games on offer but we do add Russian whenever we can :)

I prefer the second but I wrote about differences here: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/promo_wargaming_weekend/post6
Blitzkrieg vs Soldiers

Which is best in your opinion?

Like Ghorpm, I like both games, but prefer the second one. If you're only going to get one of them, I'd say go for #2.

I was a bit surprised to find I have everything here but King's Bounty: Crossworlds. For 6 bucks on sale, it's a must buy for me

JohnnyDollar: Blitzkrieg vs Soldiers

Which is best in your opinion?
Blitz. Huge Armies and tank/trench warfare.

Does the scale of the models bother you any? Everything looks so small judging by the screenshots.

the infantry can be quite stupid sometimes... But you can still call in, bombers, paradrops and aa planes that dogfight the enemys planes... its very cool

The next to it is Cossacks, which have a focus on battle management instead of economic one (I mean, more than AoE)

11 more games for the pile? (Blitzkrieg 1-2, Etherlords 1-2, Heroes of Annihilated Empires, UFO 1-3, King's Bounty and Crossworlds, and Soldiers:Heroes of WW2) Absofrigginglutely.

Edit - Just had to say, I love this site so much. Every purchase straddles the increasingly blurry line between enjoyment and compulsion.
