King's Bounty Series, Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg Series, Silent Storm S2, and other wargames 70% off!

War is, undeniably, a part of human nature. Or maybe even nature in general. Everywhere you look wars are being waged. Even in your own backyard you'll find ant colonies fighting each other in endless struggle for resources and living space. According to many theories war is the single most progressive force in human history. Whether we like it or not, the root of most technological, and even social advancement lie in the race for military strength. There is no wonder war fascinates us and holds a prominent place in our imagination. And--of course--all of that interest we take in it, is being expressed via computer games. Today, we invite you to join us for a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/1c_gsc_nival_1c_online_weekend_promo_310114]Wargaming Weekend with 18 excellent strategy and tactics titles offered whole 70% off. Let's take a brief look at some of the games, shall we?

King's Bounty: The Legend and its continuation, King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY play a lot like a Heroes of Might & Magic game. But simply calling them clones would be unjust. Saying that they're "genetically enhanced clone"--as one of our users called it--would be much more fair. The gameplay is full of unique ideas and the high-fantasy setting of the game has a very distinctive feel to it. With many, many hours of gameplay, innumerable tasks to complete, giant world to explore, and a great variety of enemies to defeat, those gems of a strategic-RPG truly deserves your attention. Yours for $2.99 and $5.99 respectively.

Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology are both extensive, realistic, and multifaceted strategy gems. Don't miss the opportunity to get yourself hours upon hours of excellent and challenging strategic gameplay that will test your skills as a military commander. Both games excel in portraying the reality of the World War II campaigns down to detailed unit specifics and equipment. You'll get a chance to recreate the most important battles that served as turning points of mankind's most terrifying conflict up to date. Once you finish all the engaging single-player scenarios, you can challenge your friends online or use the provided map editor to create your very own campaigns. They can be a part of your collection for only $2.99 each!

That's only a small part of our Wargaming Weekend promo. Head out to the promo page to be fully briefed on our offer and start planning the tactics on your approach. The offer lasts until Tuesday, February 4, at 4:59AM GMT. Over and out!
I go to edit my post and delete most of it instead. I'm not going to retype it.

iwontdance: Hi Folks,
can you recommend any of the current Wargames?
I am a pacifist, but I just feel like I could try one of these for a change. Last time I played RTS game was Warcraft 3. I would not mind something halfway historic, as I have had my share of fantasy worlds through RPG lately.
Do you prefer turn-based or realtime games? I recommend King's Bounty. The gameplay's like enhanced version of Heroes of Might and Magic games with colorful graphics. And Etherlords seem great also. You might as well check it out. All these are turn-based, of course, not realtime.
Ahhhhh! Too many wishlist choices to choose from! AHHHHHH! Well, I can cross off King's Bounty, since I have Legend and Armored Princess and both of them bored me to tears. It was just, fight dudes, do region quests, move to new region, make an entirely new army out of the natives because your old army gets annihilated, rinse and repeat. It felt kind of like HoMM III except without any driving force, they were just very "meh" to me. I did like the artifacts and how to level them up, that was neat.

But that leaves so many more to choose from! Oooo I never did play Etherlords, time to pick those up. Any advice on Star Wolves? Good, bad, ugly?

jackster79: Nice - you are fast catching up to me. I am positive I have already been overtaken in the wishlist count, though not by much. :-)

CarrionCrow: Hoping to add another 100 onto the stack during summer sales. The worrying part is that it's going past "Hey, that looks cool" straight towards "The collection is incomplete without EVERYTHING".
I have succumbed to that myself for a couple of individual series (M&M, Ultima, may be others), but overall that is held in check by the finite resource known as $$$. Otherwise, I would be buying everything in sight, and especially would have done so during the winter sale.

There is also another force at work on me here: it feels like by only buying just those games I want, the ones on my shelf have more "luster" / more meaning than if I just bought the whole kit-and-kaboodle. I am weird like that, I guess.

Ophelium: That's why I bought Serious Sam The Second Encounter (game 298 in my huge and impractical collection). Got the first one for $.59 and, with the collection discount, the second was only $3.99. Not really a big SS fan, but...but...the collection!
Once I bring that wishlist o' mine down to size I will probably be looking at those I would never have looked at and start thinking that way as well.

And a kudos to you on your collection - got me beat by 17 games! :-)

Buenro-games: Huh? The UFO franchise was here in GOG? Have to investigate that further, those games were awesome. I wonder if these are clones? hmmmm....
avatar
IAmSinistar: They aren't the XCOM games, just in case those are the ones you are thinking of. XCOM is the superior product, but these should be fun enough in their own right, especially at these prices.
"These are not the XCOM Games you are looking for."... These are not the Games we are looking for.. "We'll be on our way..." Please be on your way. Now move along. Move along. ;)

Soccorro: yep the first one forced you to use your brain. you had to use artillery, anti air units and expecially infantry to avoid disasters. In BK 2 it's like:

"The infantry is unable to break through the enemy lines!? SEND IN MORE INFANTRY!!"

JaqFrost: Thanks guys!

Now that I have Blitzkrieg sorted, does anyone have thoughts, feelings or opinions on Fantasy Wars, Heroes of Annihilated Empires or Star Wolves?
Little late perhaps, but....

Loved Fantasy Wars. Great TBS, but be warned, it is hard, and can seem frustrating, especially if you don't start on EASY, trust me, Easy is hard enough. If you try to rush through levels/battles, the AI will kick your ass. Think, calculate, and move units strategically, expecting the enemy to perhaps pop out of no-where, because at times it does. Sometimes feels like the AI is cheating, getting tons of units, but IMO, it wasn't always a bad thing, because, I really enjoyed the challenge.

HoAE is another fun game. I only got perhaps a 3rd of the way through the campaign, and just felt the difficulty really ramped up way to much on a new mission (ie., was spammed and overwhelmed by enemy units), and I eventually moved on to another game in frustration. I will at some point return, and try again, because I did enjoy it, but haven't yet. Take what you will from that, lol.

Star Wolves is awesome, I loved it it. Plays a little like Homeworld, but you have less units to fight with, although, you now have your own crew and pilots, and change loadouts (weapon systems, repair, radar, sheilds, ect.) to your different fighters, and Mothership. One of my favorite Space games, which lead me to Star Wolves 3, which you will definitely end up getting if you like SW1 as much as I did. FYI, SW2 is basically borked, and ain't worth the effort or money for the most part.

undeadcow: How is Heroes of Annihilated Empires? Can anyone encourage or discourage a purchase on Heroes of Annihilated Empires?

My wishlist is down to six items (counting The Banner Saga). The problem tends to be, that curiosity and low prices make for a bad mix in my case. If something that caught my interest even a little pops up in a decent sale, I'll more often than not pick it up. Looking at my shelf, there are about 50 games which I haven't installed and/or played. Some I bought on sale, hoping to eventually have a better pc to run them on. One was an accidental purchase (It was supposed to be for one of my giveaways and I was half-tired and forgot to check the little box). Some I bought purely for the soundtracks or nostalgic reasons. And one I bought because it was being removed from the catalog. Yes, I have a problem :P

Thanks for that! I was a bit on the fence, but at a buck seventy-nine sounds like it is worth a shot.

Great Promo! But I had all games already :-)
You bastards! I was doing so well keeping my purchases to a minimum while slowly working through my backlog, then you have to go and offer a massive sale containing a bunch of games from my wishlist.

PS- great promo.

Not too late at all. Thank you! =) I've waited 'til today to nail down my purchases because I can't decide whether I should get GOG copies of any of the UFOs. I have them through a Groupees bundle, but in between the uncertainty of their availability and the poor download speed... The latter being the reason why I haven't played any of them yet. =/

Yes, there is a problem, given your previous statements. You don't have all the games yet! ;)
I just bought all. Sadly Cossacks 2 not released on GOG yet :/

While I can't argue with that logic, there are some games on here that I would never play and some that are out of my price range :P

You bought all? Wow, you're such a good GOG's supporter! I'd like to support GOG as well if I have thicker wallet because I like the company's policy of DRM-free. I don't buy games from anywhere else, only here. Anyway, happy gaming! :)
