In wilderness' loving embrace.

Banished, a medieval village sim full of tranquility that evens out the many hardships of an exile's life in the lush and beautiful, but also harsh and unforgiving realm they've been cast into, is available for $19.99 on GOG.com.

We are the banished ones. Cast away from our homeland, exiled by our own brethren. But the woods are bountiful, the river is full of fish, and there's still months before the winter comes. We will toil and we will moil, from the sweat of our brows a village will rise. We will cut trees to make room for roads and houses, we will quarry stone to build walls, we cultivate the land and hunt the woods to fill our granaries, and we will survive. We must. An outcast is an outcast as long as they don't have a place to call home. A home we shall build then, my friends. Here, in the wilderness no one ever braved. It's either that, or the cold breath of winter and the death it brings. Tomorrow, starts another chapter in our story of hardship. For now, we should rest, and marvel at this beautiful day. This has been a long journey.

Banished is a free-form village sim firmly placed in a medieval setting with every possible calamity that comes with it. You will lead a small group of refugees, exiled from their home kingdom only with the clothes on their back and a small cart of supplies. Now, they need to rip a piece of land from the wilderness and make it their home, where they will live, love, have children, and finally die (let their death be peaceful!). You'll need to keep the population happy and healthy by providing them with food and warm shelter. Watch the town grow as you assign 20 different jobs to build buildings, grow food, craft tools and clothing, and more!

Heed our warning: this is not a city-builder you may be expecting. This is a game of survival where death and despair comes uninvited into the tranquility of your settlement just when you least expect it. We challenge you to lead the Banished, for only $19.99 on GOG.com.

Ghorpm: a very difficult game.

chezybezy: hmm might make me rethink above... then again maybe not...
I'm terribly sorry but we derailed the thread and this remark about difficulty was for another game, not Banished!

zeffyr: What kind of monsters, like wolves and such? Or has it any fantasy twist with those monsters?

Merchito: It's very likely some of the devs of the game lurks this thread... :P
If so, could you explain how it happens the game is less than 100 Mo? (No worries there. Just... surprised.)

JudasIscariot: I'd like to know too :)

Must be a high level wizard or something :D
It's been compressed by enslaved GOGbears...
I like some city building games, but from what I've seen and heard this doesn't look like it's for me.
Good addition to the catalogue though.

Reassuming, is it fantasy-set in any way? What I mean - are there dragons, spells, etc.? Or is it very rational-based game? :) I hope you get me :P
Sounds like exactly what I've been looking for, can't wait till payday.

Some of the oddest system requirements I've seen in a while though.
The CPU and GPU apparently are going to get a good workout.

Well it says "historical" on the gamecard, so presumably it's on the realistic side .

Reading the description on the developers site it sounds VERY "real world".
That's why it sounds like a game for me. :)

That's better that way! :) Thx!
Sweet instant wishlist for payday :)

And if people didn't know this was made by a single guy ... you can find him on reddit in /r/banished
Just got the game. Interesting so far. I tried starting on Hard setting with 4 families and a little supply with no seeds (must resort to hunting/gathering/fishing). After my first winter, a family just died, I am short of workers and one other family only has the mother and 2 kids left. This is the kind of game that I was looking for. Though I am hoping there would be some added depth like lets say problems with at least something like crime or wild animals attacking villagers or cattles and maybe something as extreme as barbarian invasions. So far a good game and it is quite relaxing. I needed to take a break after being harassed by space pirates in Distant Worlds.

Really wish the developer would further support the game. Some minor complaints that I have would be the reduced visibility during foggy days, which would have been alright if the game's graphics are a bit clearer and not too blurry and the lack of on-screen pause sign indicating that the game is paused. You have to look at your villagers to see whether the game is paused. Some things are also unclear like who is going to cut the logs (wood cutter would only convert them to firewood for winter) and who is going to mine the stones lying around.
Oh thank god, I thought it was only releasing on the awful, horrible, over engineered drm junk called steam.
