Alone in the strange world of Pagan, the Avatar has to bring the battle to the Guradian.

Ultima™ 8 Gold Edition, the last 2D cRPG in the famous Ultima series, is available now for only $5.99.

Ultima 8 featured “a closer blend of fantasy and reality than ever before--real-world physics and game play” (that’s from the game box!) including platform running at several speeds, jumping unto stepping stones and transverse cliffs, walking on ledges etc. Also, Avatar is left alone, without any RPG companions, and that makes the game extremely difficult, while most of the enemies are both extremely hard to kill and extremely deadly. The graphics are flat-out gorgeous in their retro glory, and the well-detailed fluid animations hold up greatly even today after 18 years from release. The combat is a real change from the usual Ultima fare, with great fluidity, and tons of actiony goodness that make this game a great entry title into the series for fans of more action-centric RPGs.

Great graphics, sound, storyline, and special effects are what’s good about Ultima 8, and what’s best is that it’s available right now only on GOG.com for $5.99.
Very nice release, GOG, thanks :) I´m not fan of Ultima series myself, but I´m sure many people here will appreciate this series being almost complete :)

dirtyharry50: I was just noticing the minimum system requirements specify Windows XP or Windows Vista but there is no mention of Windows 7? Was this an oversight perhaps? I hope so.
It is minimum system requirements, Windows 7 is supported.
Hell yes! I loved this game as a kid... it just felt so atmospheric at the time.

Forsling: If you haven't played it before you might want to check out this review before you play:

Hell, you might want to check that out even if you have played the game.
Yes. I was just about to post the same thing.
It's such a shame that every single aspect of the game feels unfinished, it had so much potential.
I'm probably gonna catch some hate for this, but....

Not sure what you're talking about. Played this long time ago, and loved it.

Maybe it's different than previous parts (Ultima VII for example), so those who loved VII couldn't play VIII Pagan.

But for someone who never played Ultima game, VIII Pagan was very good rpg game.
"Mario the Avatar" returns.  Not without merit (especially visually), but there's a special place in Hell waiting for whoever decided the Ultima series needed (poorly designed) platforming gameplay.

I think they call that special place "Developing Ultima 9" though, so justice may already have been served.

Grousing aside, thanks for adding it GOG. It's good to have it back.
Maybe not the best one, but i'll always have fond memories of U8. Nice to see it here.

The idiotic jumping puzzles were much, much easier with the official patch I recall... Personally, my problem with the game is that the Avatar doesn't act at all... Avatary. Rather than live up to the virtues, he does everything he feels he has to, to get off that rock...
Great release. I'm always happy to add another piece to my Ultima puzzle to make the picture more complete. Now all I have to do is find the time to start from Ultima 1.

Very happy to hear it! I am positive I was playing the game as released...this was before I'd really discovered there were such things as post-release patches. Now even more interested in checking it out again.

As to why the Avatar was forgetting his virtues...I think I would have too after the 30th time failing to land solidly on a slippery wet rock and falling into the bottomless depths of Pagan's waterways...
wishlist entry needs to be marked as completed

unacomn: It would be awesome if someone at EA dug up the expansion as well. It wasn't released, but it was finished.
Totally agree!

Make it happen GOG :)

Though seriously, if GOG could actually get it, it would be the sort of thing that can create a lot of goodwill from the customers/fans.
This game must suck because there is so many negative user reviews.
