I don't care how good it looks, charging $8 for a mocha latte is ridiculous!

Oh wait, I thought this was the "Starbucks looks interesting" thread. Sorry.

I hope that one day they release Terraria DRM-free...

When it came out, it was one of those CEG-free "DRM-free" Steam games and I bought it, but then they added CEG in the very next update! So I've been cracking it since...

+1 for your post and a thanks for finding this out.

I saw on Reddit someone asked about setting up servers and they mentioned trying to integrate that into Steam. I saw that as a bad sign for the game, but this makes a Shadowrun like incident seem like it won't happen.

hopefully so! im glad the specified exactly what was happening with the possible DRM loophole "not to be called liars later" part.
very similar to the GOG thread about Planetary Annihilation thread. if that one gets through this one with a single player story mode DRM-free + TCP/IP mode should be able to get through here on GOG.

it would be good for them to put it onto the main FAQ page but at least they answer directly.

Been trying to get that answer from them...with little success (got Tiyuri to tell me months ago that it wouldn't be a Steam Exclusive, that's it). =/

At least someone managed to get this information. Thank you.

that AMA pic was provided for me, not my screen capture. i think it was from a couple days ago 3-5.
the IRC dev quotes were from last evening + 30mins or so cutting it down/editing.

they were against doing the PreOrder as well so that has changed 'recently' as well.

i would be nice to have that DRM-free info on their 'main' FAQ page @:
http://playstarbound.com/faq/

im going to email them about that suggestion when i do my PreOrder in a couple hours.
but am glad they were able to directly answer me with a couple people(devs/coders) deep in the agreement that it was DRM-free.
^_^

Sent an email regarding the DRM (or lack there of) of Starbound (well...it wasn't the first) and got the response just now:
Hey Ryan,

Often IRC is very hectic (especially now with preorder in full swing) and it's hard to answer every question fully.
There will be a direct-download copy of Starbound available and you will be able to play offline. We've considered the use of an account system to enable certain features, but most likely won't, and even if we did it would still be possible to play offline without it.

So yes, Starbound is DRM-free. :) Sorry if you felt your question was ignored before.

I think I'll go ahead and plan on a pre-order now. So excited for this game.
Might also be a good idea to ask whether the direct download version will be cripped in anyway (or lack updates in the future)
