Stooner: I also read some good things about Incoming Forces and Imperial Glory.
Check your PMs and decide for yourself.

This is thanks for your recommendations. And because I like buying games. :P

Ophelium: A most painful sale...*hugs wallet good-bye*
Do not be sad, for you know that wallet will eventually find its way back, being the glutton for punishment that it is! :-)
Ok, I know and I'm interested in these:
-Commandos 1 (owned)
-Commandos 2+3 --> famous sequels
-Worms United --> the classic original!
-Realms of the Haunting --> seemed a great FP adventure, but always crashed at first puzzle for me :|
-Alien Breed + Tower Assault --> it was damn hard classic arcade top-down alien shooter
-Incoming + Incoming Forces --> simple arcade FP shooter, mostly nostalgia

What do you know about these?
-Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising --> is it really a classic, as some say?
-Slipstream 5000 --> seems cool, how's the gameplay?
-Praetorians --> reviews say that the AI's difficulty is insane (almost unbeatable)
-Constructor --> nice but bad UI, too much micromanagement?
-Creatures1 --> creature simulation? Is it good? Is C2 better?
-Soulbringer --> reviews: small fov, poor pathfinding, bad ui, many empty spaces? :(

deonast: You know I'd not wanted these for some reason, and avoided them. But now I'm suddenly caught with the me too, syndrome and now I'm tempted to buy them just so I don't miss out (since I must keep up with the Joneses, who all want them :(

tinyE: I got tired of waiting and bought both. XD I also snagged Praetorians even though I already have it on disc and it's HAAAAAARD!!!! These sales are going to kill me.
Yep I know the feeling, little by little I end up buying more. Eventually I might own most of the games here and yet would have played but a handful.
Bargain bin indeed, gog, bargain bin indeed...

:P
Realms of the Haunting is one of the most underrated gems ever.

You fight over islands from the bridge of a futuristic aircraft carrier with a factory aboard. You order the carrier to create various land and air vehicles from collected scrap, then you attach weapons and accessories such as cloaks and armor. You can take control of any vehicle at any time, but most of the time vehicles are run by distinctive AI personalities you attach to them. The carrier does not move under your control, but later in the game you can call in devastating strikes from its main guns.

Gameplay is primarily an assault on fixed enemy installations, but there are constant strikes against your carrier, ambushes, and other surprises. Enemy oil wells give them the funds to keep repairing your damage, so it's often necessary to sneak in and destroy the wells before launching your main attack. Some missions place your carrier in immediate danger and force you to move quickly to remove artillery and other threats. The storyline complements the gameplay, explaining what's going on and why. Dr. Who's Tom Baker is the narrator.

The game gives a real feeling of being there on the ship interacting with the AI vehicles. It would be mediocre as a shooter or a strategy game, but everything comes together to make it feel like a complete world.

wvpr: The carrier does not move under your control,
What. WHAT ?

So it's, like, mission-based ? You don't roam around the archipelago, setting up defense/prooduction installations and strategically desiding what island to assault next ?

IS IT AS MUCH NON-CARRIERCOMMAND-y !!?

i feel betrayed.
Thanks GOG, will surely pick something from the list. *watches at Soulbringer with hellfire in his eyes"
Oh well, had my shelf at a nice round 150.
Now I suppose I have to go for an even 200. :)

Bought:
Worms Forts
Slipstream
Alien Breed
Nice promo with some great games.

To anyone who hasn't played it, I can't recommend Realms of the Haunting enough.

I never really got the hang of it, but it is a rather engaging "virtual pet" simulation, even though you don't really do much in these "games". Your interaction is mostly passive and consists to a large degree of trying (often desperately) to teach the creatures what to do and what not to do. The complex "genetics" mechanic and the breeding aspect is probably what makes it really interesting, where you end up with multiple generations of "norns".
I have only played "The Albian Years" (Creatures 1 and 2), so I can't say whether "Exodus" (C3) is better. Amongst fans of the series, though, Creatures 2 was kind of notorious for being rather buggy, mostly because the "brain chemistry" of the "norns" in that game was pretty much screwed up on release. It apparently caused the creatures to be absurdly happy after a while, even if they were starving to death.

You don't happen to know any good resolution tricks for it do you? I love it but I was always wondering if there was a way to make the graphics just a tad more crisp, realizing it's an old game of course.

Sorry, no. I think the game engine simply doesn't support anything above 640x480, and I haven't seen any fan patches or anything.

The guy who manages this website might have an idea if such a thing is possible, though. :)
