It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Is there a way to create ISO / disc image files? Right now, I only see the option to mount already existing images.

If there isn't I guess I'd have to use ImgBurn (which works perfectly in 8, just as it did in 7).

AndrewC: From a subjective point of view, hardware acceleration on HTML5 is just horrible (watching a 1080p HTML5 vid takes my processor to around 30% while the same on Flash keeps it at around 3% doing offloading to the video card).
Doesn't it also depend on the browser and format since HTML5 video isn't just one thing? The way I understand it IE9+ tap into Windows' native H.264 hardware acceleration whereas Firefox and the like have to provide their own acceleration for webm at the browser level since they refuse to implement H.264 (even if the OS can provide it).

AndrewC: The only thing I dislike is how many steps I have to go through to shut down the computer. The rest is OK and have absolutely no issues with it.

kavazovangel: Right side Charm - Settings - Power - Shutdown, but yea it is a bit faster in 7.
You can also use Ctrl+Alt+Del > Power > Shut Down.

I haven't found a tool so far..

My view (well my OH's she stole my computer cause the interface "looked pretty") much faster at certain things though slower at first (while you wait on drivers to install etc) nice integration with my xbox etc even down to my live games showing up...
Overall I don't think I'll keep it but my OH will be getting a preorder down on it...
Apparently windows 8 contains a kill switch. I do not like that:

Did I really need another reason? Did I? Well now I've got one. This will be exploited by both MS and criminals alike.

Yes, because it's obviously a bad option to be able to to kill a compromised app (virused, stealing sensitive data, whatever) on all the PCs running it instead of letting it go on misbehaving.

Also, remember that this only applies to Metro apps from the Metro curated store, so your regular applications are unaffected by this.

I swear to god, it's like people don't understand the meaning of the word curated which applies to all app stores.

But yeah, Google is evil, Microsoft is evil, Apple is evil! Nevermind the fact that using that kill switch on an application that doesn't have any issues would cause the company more damage than anything else imaginable.

Installed it on virtualbox. It's nice but metro doesn't translate that well to a mouse and keyboard (although it works better than I thought it would).

I'm all for change although I don't understand why touch is so important on a desktop.

Amazon doesn't seem to have been that damaged after their misuse of the Kindle kill switch.

Touch screens are hot. Most people use laptops. Vendors need new features to hawk their wares. I predict touch screens will soon become standard equipment.

If you're talking about removing 1984 from the users devices I remember a lot of rage at the time, and then Amazon explained the reason why and people calmed down.

Unless you somehow manage to hack into Microsoft's secure servers, you won't be able to take advantage of it. This is for Metro applications only. And since all Metro applications need to pass detailed inspection for them to be available on Windows Store, you won't have to bother about it.

I should really make a website and start writing crappy articles that make some things like they are a HUGE news.

Oh, and it would be just great if you can also physically destroy PCs via the internet. I'd love to destroy all those idiots' zombie PCs..

Tell that to most businesses who still run their dinosaur programs. Take the place I work at. They still continually tweak their VB6 application that is used to handle all orders. Good lord.

I think I read though that there's supposed to be like nine versions of Windows 8 (Vista has nothng on 8!).

SKUs, not versions. But that is great, because people won't have to buy the more expensive packages if they don't need the features.

Around here most people get either Home Basic or Home Premium (if they cannot get Home Basic). Home Basic is also being deployed to stores and commercial places. Try to convince somebody to sell them Professional, they'd just tell you to fuck off because they don't need that stuff, they only need their single application to run.

Arm (Tablets/netbooks)
Starter (3rd world)
Home basic (netbooks)
Home Premium
Pro
Ultimate
Enterprise

SKU's but seperate
Dev beta
Consumer Beta
Enterprise trial

So 7 actual SKU's of which only 3 you'll likely never see

I just don't like giving that much control to anyone. It doesn't matter if they abuse it or not. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of my own PC and I don't want others doing it for me.
