Unhidden Movement: XCOM Demo Is Go

X-Com Enemy Unknown

The download button isn't working yet (makes my Steam client freeze for 5 seconds) but it's suppose to arrive any minute or hour since the release is September 24th.

EDIT: Confirmed to be working for at least me and a user at SPUF now.

My dowload button started to work too but when it's supposed to start downloading I get error message ("No subscription").

Same problem for me, No subscription error message. :| Hopefully they clear it up soon.

*EDIT* Restarting Steam solved the issue

Probably because of overload. I suggest try again, restart steam or wait an hour. I began to download at full speed then half through then it dropped to a 5th of that.
Yup, restart solved it.
Thanks for the info! I'm way below the minimum specs, but it's worth checking out anyway. Torchlight 2 works flawlessly, maxed out on my desktop resolution, and i'm below it's minimum req's too.
Time to lag my roommate out of WoW (at least for the time required to download the demo).

Impressive. Hope it at least works for you. :)

Good luck! Tough for him if he's in a raid. :P
Speaking of XCOM and Steam, apparently if enough people preorder on Steam everyone of those people will receive a free copy of Civ 5. I'd be surprised if they didn't hit that mark.
Thanks for the heads up!

No lets sucker me into preordering!
I finished the demo. I have never played an X-Com before but I thought it played out great. I have some worries in the difficulty department as well as the main plot, I can see the former be either too hard or too easy and the latter too simple but we'll see. No pre-order for me but I'll probably pick it up at some point in the future.
Well, it works on my old 7600GT, barely, but it does.
It's heavily scripted, i hope the full game isn't.
I'm really excited for the demo! Downloading now.

I am getting the game for my birthday in a couple of weeks, but I am just really excited about this game (and I've never played the originals).

The full game is supposed to be random missions for the most part, though it might have a couple of scripted ones (like the tutorial/first mission). May I ask what the demo contains, since it still needs ~15 mins to finish downloading?

Oh, that's cool, all i need now is to gather up cash and wait for Cenega to reveal the price for the SE. ;)

DEMO SPOILERS:
The demo contains two missions, divided by a a base overview section. You choose on which continent the base will be [two possibilities], You're introduced to research and soldier promotion [leveling], after which You go on the second mission, though there are two locations to choose from at this point, which is nice. After that i couldn't do anything in the base, despite the game telling me about building facilities [i may have missed something], and then the demo ends with a cliffhanger. Very movie-esque.
/DEMO SPOILERS

Also, it seems i couldn't 'focus' on a facility in the base by clicking/doubleclicking it, and i had to use the buttons to navigate, it's a bit irritating.

Edited for sense.
