Gersen: Is it official ? The last preview I read of the game some weeks ago mentioned the lack of randomly generated maps/mission as one of the main differences between the original and the new one (along with only having a single base)
Damn my internet, posting failed.
So far, there is a small number of maps (a dozen? two dozen?) which are used over and over. The number of enemies, type of enemies and objectives depend on current game progress and mission type. So while you will be seeing the same maps, the missions won't be the same. Think of it more or less like the UFO:A? kind of missions. No idea (yet) about story missions.
The demo contains the first tutorial mission (where I finally understood why people in the 2k forums want to shoot their commanding officer), the first base tutorial, and the first semi-random mission. The speeches of your scientist and rest is there in place of a tutorial, more or less giving you tips on how to progress (capture an alien, don't blow up their equipment etc). In my opinion, it does work better than hand-holding, even if only because it doesn't break immersion.
The demo is more or less a benchmark to see if our rig is good enough to run it, and unfortunately mine only has a decent frame rate on low :( It does run it so, which means I'll enjoy it :)
P.S. Anybody tried it with a controller yet?
