deadfolk: Well I got Seattle or Beijing, even in the demo, so I guess it's random.
avatar
JMich: US or China, which seem to be the only 2 possibilities. But at least it does have a list of cities, not sure if the map location also changes depending on which city you go to.
I wouldn't bet on it, you'd think it would be a huge amount of extra work. The warehouse in Hong Kong, which was featured in the video I watched, looked like a generic warehouse that could be located anywhere if it weren't for some Chinese letters here and there in the landscape. So I think the Beijing deadfolk got, probably was the same level but with a different name. I could be wrong, of course, this is purely my speculation. But whichever the case, I think it's nice there is some randomization, even if only in the level (country) name. Doesn't make it completely linear then, at least. And naturally, if Beijing and Hong Kong are completely different levels, it makes this better even. Good-looking game I must say, once it's 30-40 EUR I'm definitely getting it.
Currently downloading the demo.. (have game pre ordered via GMG...)

There are currently 2 levels for the 2nd mission, Act2_Pier.upk and Act2_Pier_Asian.upk, with (I think) only cosmetic differences (letters on the warehouse etc).
What I meant about map location changing was whether the skyranger will always go towards the same place, or if it will go towards the proper location (Miami or California for example, different coasts of the US).
P.S. You should be able to find the game at ~€40 by looking online, the game is Steamworks after all. I think GMG or GG had a good offer as well, check the gaming deals thread.

I'm going to get it from gamersgate.co.uk - it's £29.99. If you have the IGN 15% discount, that works out at around EUR31. Steamworks, so it doesn't matter where you get it from.

Whoa, 31€? What do I need to do to get myself an IGN 15% discount too? :D

The IGN Prime program was offering a -15% permanent discount on GMG 6 months or so back. I don't think it's still being offered though, so sad panda :(
Kind of flew through the demo mission, from the point they let you go on your own I basically killed everything in the turn they showed up. Only 'casualty' I had was one injury and it was one of the guys I had to move there because of the tutorial part and he got hit before I could do anything with him.

I guess I'll go for a higher level difficulty right from the start :)

Well, another source told me Gamesplanet will sell the game for about 34€ :) Think I'll buy it there.

That's sort of an improvement honestly. I always thought Beginner difficulty in the original should be renamed to "Stab you in the chest and eat all your puppies" with the top difficulty being "Seduce your significant other, make you lose your job, bury you up to your neck in mud, cut off your nose, and repeatedly kick you in the face until you die of exposure".

Nirth: ...
Considering your name I assume you play mostly games from 80s and 90s?
...
I also assume those ingame cutscenes take some space especially if they're not compressed.
Yeah, I'm a RETRO fan but I would say it's 50/50 on retro/modern games that I play.

You're right, the video cutscenes are taking so much space. It's a bit irrational to include them in the demo because they seem to be all the cutscenes form the full game. I watched some of them but I was afraid to hit the outro so I stopped. :) They take 3.78GB of disk space!!!! I'm mean what's the point?? Couldn't they just include videos that are needed in the demo?? It would be so easier to download. I'm going to try to remove the unnecessary videos later and see what will happen. :)

it's still offered but the page to claim in from is shafted!
Sooo, that was it?

I'm not really convinced. The mission where you could actually control some units was fun, but so far I'm not convinced to pre-order.

Guess I will be playing Xenonauts until this hits a sale.

Give it a few more days. So far, they've managed to add mind control to the sectoids, add mutons, super floaters, increase the squad size and add a few more "goodies" for the soldiers to play with. So while the current demo is just a benchmark, it does include a lot of files, and it does seem really modable.
P.S. try also a run on impossible, you just need to change 1 ini file for that to see if impossible is truly that (the demo is set to east after all).
It was unimpressive and my expectations lowered after this. It was too easy and too restrictive but it's hopefully only because of demo. UI is really bad and camera is nothing spectacular too. Mouse controls are not good.
Once I tried to shoot and wasn't possible for some reason and I never learnt why. And enemies having 3 HP's are pathetic.
There are certainly some positives but most things were just meh. And I hope in more randomness than you mentioned here.
I lost 8 out of 10 soldiers during terror mission in TFDD today and I had more fun than with this. :-/

It's pretty difficult on impossible you WILL lose that first trooper your forced to send on the roof...
