macuahuitlgog: Which .exe do I use to make my own shortcut? And I also wanted to know if it is normal for games to not install shortcuts...
avatar
carlosjuero: On Windows Vista & 7 it is common for newer games not to add shortcuts, this is because of Microsoft's [failed] policy of putting all game shortcuts in the special Games folder.

I am pretty sure that my installer added a shortcut to the desktop though - then I dragged it to my custom pin stack menu on my task bar.

You can choose 2 ways to create a shortcut, either the launcher or direct game.

Launcher location is: [Game Install Path]\APLauncher.exe
Direct game executable is: [Game Install Path]\Binaries\APGame.exe

[examples:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Alpha Protocol\APLauncher.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Alpha Protocol\Binaries\APGame.exe
]
Thanks for the help. :) + for this post.

carlosjuero: Thanks for the tips folks :)

Now it is the Checkpoint based save system that is irritating the heck out of me. With the current heat wave we are going through here I cannot sit comfortably in front of my PC for long periods of time to play the game [and I can't sleep during the day and game at night, my body is too conditioned to waking up early and not being allowed to sleep during the day] - the checkpoints make it irritating to make progress at times.

What made me exit the game this morning was due to the checkpoint system. Last night I was doing the arms dealer mission - got past the courtyard and infiltrated [well, if you call shooting evreything with an assault rifle infiltrating] the Villa - got the checkpoint just inside the doors and called it a night; this morning I load up the save and I am back at the previous checkpoint and need to clear the damned courtyard again [both the auto-checkpoint save and my explicit checkpoint save put me there]. Too hot for me to deal with so I quit playing for the time being.

I am going to start a new character anyway I think - need to invest more points in Stealth & Sabotage early on than I did for my current Mike.
Agreed. The checkpoint system can be inconsistent at times.

Yep, especially the moment when one of the dev's gets a bit hazed because of the "apple juice" :D
In a semi.-silly thing, there is no way to play the Russia hub but with a lumberjack beard and an ushanka.
I must admit to liking Alpha Protocol. The gameplay is rather basic and I've never had much trouble with stealth (which is the route I'm taking). It's not a game I'd play solely for the gameplay, but the storyline and changes in reactions based on your conversations really works very well, just too bad there are sections you cannot stealth out of but need to fight.
Still haven't completed it once though.

Also i haven't encountered any big bugs in the game. There was that one mission in Taipei with the speech where the game started lagging a bit making the boss fight near impossible, otherwise nothing game breaking unlike Mass Effect which I never completed because the bugs were killing the enjoyment of the game for me.

And them removing DRM from Alpha Protocol in an official patch is definately a plus in my book :-)
Amazing game outside of the worst mini-games ever.
It is currently available for five bucks on Direct2Drive, it is TOTALLY worth it at that price point.

GO BUY IT NOW YOU MOTHERFU-------
I just picked this game up and I'm actually really enjoying it thus far. Recommend it to any RPG fans
Played it on 360 twice, Pistols and Assault Rifle, loved it, had no bugs or camera problems. It had a great story with great characters and the progress through the story from country to country outdid and Bond games, actually I felt for the first time in a video game like James Bond on my pistol playthrough, even my dialogue choices were bond-like.

A very enjoyable RPG .... not a shooter a RPG.
It feels good that more and more people are getting this severely underrated gem :)

Too late for SEGA but since the IP is Obsidian's there is a faint, FAINT chance of a possible sequel in the far future, since they are actually interested on re-exploring it.
