Prydeless: Something sounds off if you have to d/l an additional 13 gigs. And I know of no mods for this game. There's also only one patch which doesn't do much for the game itself.
Not redownload. I mean the installer for the files I downloaded (From GG) then wanted to actually install the game for another 13 gigs. Dropped my HD down to four gigs left, not very good.

Ah, misread that. Hope you enjoy the game. I found it fun despite some glitches.
I was hanging out for this one for ages after first hearing about it, because it was one of those ideas that sprung into my head years ago - "Hey, wouldn't a James Bond RPG be cool?"

Saw the shitty reviews and bought it on release anyway. It did have a few problems and irritating bugs, but by and large it was an enjoyable experience that I wanted to keep coming back to, even before the patch. Still don't really understand the negative feedback it received. Might even replay it at some point.

From what I understand of hearsay, it's because people don't know what to expect from the game. Those who treat it as a shooter seem to be especially disappointed because "omfg why cant i hit anything this game suxxxx".

Oh I don't "love it" love it, but I don't hate it either. My problems with the game lie elsewhere and certainly not with the combat of the game, which I think is absolutely fine. It has its moments and I quite enjoyed it when I wasn't tearing my hair out at certain points. I'll probably give it a 7, though it could have been an 8-game, because I really, really hated the conversation wheel (and the ambiguity of the choices). It's also a game I don't mind going a 2nd playthrough too - and I don't say that for many games these days.

I'm probably the same really. I'd give it a 7.5, and a little more spit and polish would easily have boosted that up to an 8.

I didn't like the conversation wheel either (being more a fan of the old school "pick your sentence from a list" approach), but I liked how they were successful at making the conversations flow in a relatively natural way due to the timer and simple choices, which I felt gave them a more cinematic feel. I'm not sure it's possible to reconcile those two things, so I'm still divided on it.

My irritations were primarily technical in nature - In one example, I got told I killed the US marines in Moscow, when I did no such thing. I can forgive one or two of those, but there were enough such goings on that I felt it detracted from the experience as a whole. The combat is pretty much fine, the odd AI problem excluded. Oh, and the hacking minigame sucks. Once you get the hang of it, it's not impossible, but it never ceases to be a pain in the arse.

Definitely didn't understand the complaints about the graphics. They seemed to look up-to-date to me.

Played the first part of the tutorial (escape part) instead of going to sleep after downing pills to curb my pain. Here's some thoughts...Maybe jumbled.

- I could have done without the intro video, but it was short. Nothing against AP's. I just dislike them in general. Either it should be ten seconds long, or should just explain WTF happened without a video. I don't play games to watch cutscenes.

- I instantly fell in love with the controls. See, I HATE third person. But I only hate a specific kind, detached third person. Having the camera glued to Mike (his name right?) so I didn't have to fight it or feel "flighty" every five seconds was nice.

- Having played quite a few FPS/TPS RPG's, this felt natural. No "WHY DIDN'T I HIT HIM?!" stuff.

- I really like the cover system. I usually hate cover systems, but something about AP's instantly clicked for me. It didn't feel like it was delayed or dicking me around. Very snappy.

Controls in general feel nice to me. Nothing confusing, and nothing delayed. One of my biggest issues with Third person games is the delays. Like it's not enough to hit the button. The player's character has to walk themselves into cover. Or show a fancy animation of pulling the gun up. This was *Hit button* *Pulls gun immediately* *Hit cover button* *Go into cover immediately*.

I appreciate that, quite a bit.

- I like the amount of choice already in the game. The game stressed a stealth approach with the tutorial. I made my guy to be a tank, so I said F that and just knocked them out with tranq's. Some games would wag their finger at me, the game didn't so points for that. The fact that there's already multiple ways to go through the tutorial is a very good sign.

- Love the dialogue system. Very similar to ME's approach, but felt a little more realistic with the speed.

- Loving the minigames. The alarm hack was confusing at first, but I picked it up. Lockpicking is basically Oblivion's Lockpicking, so was natural. Hacking? Not so much. I'm dumb so the whole "Use WASD, Space, Mouse & look at these words" part was confussssssssssssssing.

- I've gotten some graphical glitches. But in that tutorial section the game ran silky smooth. Who knows if it'll hold up, but who knows. A good start.

I can't play more, due to the needing sleep thing, but I'm pretty impressed so far.

Edit: Also, I got a perk for being cool and suave under the situation. Reduces cooldown for all my skills. That's pretty damn badass, that how I RP my character affects my abilities.

Yeah I thought the graphics are pretty good. Certainly not on the level of id Tech 5, but they conveyed emotions quite well - which is more than I can say for Obsidian's other butt ugly (but fantastically written) RPG.

I was playing more, doing my first real mission. And the game started acting up. First, it'd lag until my video card crashed and rebooted. Finally, on the third time, it completely crashed my machine forcing me to do a hard reset.

I'm not ready to condemn the game. It is hot in here and maybe I needed to restart before I played, but we're getting into dangerous waters now. I'm not a fan of any game that actively crashes my machine when I attempt to play it.
It's a typical Obsidian game. Flipping brilliant, but a technical mess.
Got it for ps3..... cant seem to get past the hacking thing........../sigh I wish I had gotten it for PC now.

I can't imagine it's any easier on PC.

On the PC you use WASD to move the left word. You use the mouse to move right word, which never ever seems to want to go where it should.

And then you use space to select the left word, and left mouse button to select the right word.

But if you hit right mouse button as would make sense since it's the right word, it boots you out of the hacking minigame entirely.

It's the one part (aside from the crashing) of the game I absolutely dislike. It's unintuitive and downright needlessly complicated.
Yea, you have to ignore your cursor and just pay attention to what is selected, takes a while to get used to.

Yeah the mouse controls for that are a mess. I hear that if you tune the sensitivity to the lowest, it fixes that. Never tried it though since I searched for information about this inconvenience only after completing the game.

As for RMB cancelling and failing hacking, that's actually a feature of the game - it surprised me too to learn that you can upgrade your tech skill so that pressing RMB will not cause your hack to fail.

I'm gonna play more in a bit. I just hope it doesn't crash like that anymore.

I can put up with a lot of things, but complete system lock ups aren't one of them. Here's hoping.
And we've hit Saint's Row 2 territory.

Within a minute of booting the game, the game completely locked up my system. Screen went white, I heard noises until they drained off, and I was forced to flip the switch in the back of my PC due to lack of response.

This is about as inexcusable of a design flaw as there can be.

And much like with SR2, I like the game. I want to play the game. But I'm not going to sit here and have a game completely lock up my machine every five minutes no matter how good it is.

Going to do some looking. Maybe someone's found fixes or even put out some form of community patch. But it's not looking good.
