I can't see the efffing forest. There are trees in the way.
And those two are the future of America. All I can say is "Good luck, America!"

I'm afraid the disease has already spread worldwide. I've met my share of 'em.
They seem to think Stephen Hawking is American; is this because of his accent?
Having just finished a game of Alpha Centauri, I can say we need some form of Drone management.

Nerve stapling?

LOL, sorry but this made me laugh.

Of course it is, what other nation has a phony accent?!

Anyhoo, they should try directing the questions they pose toward themselves - what have THEY done for the human race? That's right, even less - does that mean they need to be beaten up and cut off from funding?

And the girl obviously doesn't realise that she's using a computer, based on theories made by scientists, in order to post something over the itnernet, also based on scientific theories. And the guy seems to be hopelessly uninformed and badly needs to pay attention to what his teacher says about grammar
well ... that was depressing ...

I agree on most of this, but there's a big difference in terms of practicality/application between higher theoretical sciences like black hole theory and science better put to practical use like in the design of computers/etc.

Ugh, a ton of my brain cells just committed mass suicide after seeing that.
Kids are stupid. Teenagers are still kids. Chances are good they'll grow up and stop being so goddamn dumb, like every stupid teenager before them.

Except once those where purely theoretical too. Basic science fuels applied science which fuels engineering science which fuels product engineering. Sure it is a lot of steps and some basic science may never become applicable in our lifetimes, but that doesn't mean it won't ever be. Besides which, it doesn't need to be ... it's awesome by itself. :)

I think the larger issue is that they think all he does is "come up with a theory" (read: hypothesis in scientific lingo) that's just as good as them talking out of their respective asses. They have no conception of the scientific process nor appreciation for the world around them.

They are quintessential ignorami and sadly proud of it.

I agree but i'm guessing black hole theory won't be of much use in our or our's grandchildren's lifetimes.

Well ... except for CERN destroying the Earth :P

as a completely totally unrelated aside :), Hawking Radiation is one of the many, many reasons the nano-black holes created by CERN are benign
