Aatami: So, i'm bloody lost and I need to find my way back to spawn. Is there a cartograph that allows to you view the maps on servers? I don't want to just kill myself because i've built something where I am and I want to be able to find my way back.
You could build a compass. They always point towards the spawn.

Zan's Minimap (requires modloader).

superfly2000: So it is out of line to try and save the server from completely dying?

Besides...all of you that don't play here anymore....why are you posting?
The server was never close to dying, it's just never been at the level of activity that you seem to expect.

I'm in college and I'd bet that at least a couple others here are; I know for a fact that several members here have jobs and families, we just don't have the free time to spend playing Minecraft.

We like a small, relatively quiet server where we can work on our projects in the small segments of time that we play, without having them get destroyed when we're half done. It's nice to be able to go around and look at what others have built, whether they're there or not. Sometimes we'll work together on things, like the castle and water tower from the last server.

Point is, yes activity is low, but we as a community are okay with that, it's the kind of server we need to go along with our busy lives.

I can't speak for the community, as I'm not a part of it in that sense (I've never been on the GOG Minecraft server), but if I were, I would feel exactly as you described.

I'm an admin in a small local gaming community, and we have a private Minecraft SMP server. It works for us just like you say. We each do our own projects, and occasionally collaborate on bigger things. One of the first large projects we did was a huge common warehouse, full of chests with signs saying what goes where. Any spare resources we happen to have, we put into the warehouse. As a result, almost anything anyone needs for a project is readily available, and if someone needs something special, he tells the others, and they help gather what he needs. It's an excellent way to play, and any griefers would totally ruin the experience.
I just want to say I had a little look. I am building a small wooden cabin somewhere and a little mine, until I have some resources. I think I borrowed into someones mine tunnel, but it looked like it was just a long random mine shaft. Hope this is ok...

Aye but I want to find where my friends place is and how far from where I am, and then the spawn.

Summed up my feelings pretty well really.

I haven't been on for a few weeks, find it hard to get the time at the minute, and my limited game playing time has been spent on HOMAM5 and some sierra adventure games.

It is a shame it's not more popular though, I'd love to see more GOG folks on it, keeping it alive. So I don't want to condemn superfly2000 for trying to get more interest.

I guess the other way would be to have mods relating to building permission, but you'd need people around to authorise people.
Hi guys. I stopped by the server today and puttered around a bit (I started a tower on a hill not far from the spawn). It was my first experience with SMP, so I found it sad at first that nobody was home then. But then I got nuked by some creepers and was glad that nobody was around to see that. :) Unfortunately the blast appeared to have torn the top off of a shallow mine shaft (again near the spawn). Not a big deal, but I didn't want you to think it was a griefer -- just a peace-loving SMP noob getting into nooby trouble.

Does anyone know where the server is hosted? I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere in this thread but I didn't see it. Tracerouting the IP makes it look like it's in Paris, which may explain my lag.

It's being hosted by Emualynk from these forums, his (hers? I'm not really sure) location says France, so it could very well be Paris.
Fun to see activity going up on the server again...even though its been a little "rocky road". A peculiar thing is that it gets too many players I seem to get unbearable lagg...so I guess a few on at a time is enough :-P

Congratulations to Mason and his crew for getting the railroad ready :-P
And thus I, too, have joined the madness. Provided the address given in the op is indeed the Unofficial GOG Minecraft server.

I tried running my own server before, but it doesn't like being run on my Mac Mini G4 with just 1GB of RAM, nor does it like the client and server running on the same machine (so I could run both on my main desktop with 8 gibs of rams). So I played solo, in peaceful mode, until now.

Also, if anyone's wondering, I'm known as "Approx_", because some bastard took my name.

1.4 is apparently out, I believe the server needs updating.
Server is pretty much unplayable right now due to lag.
Laggs less for me since the update to 1.4.

What we REALLY need is to get the server white listed......that griefer will not stop....so it is the only way....
