Arcade-like action-jRPG platformer with Metroidvania elements.

Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin: a series of action-focused jRPGs, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 25% launch discount!

Ys I & II Chronicles+ is an enhanced release of the two that started it all. These classics feature a unique buttonless "bump" combat system, designed to mitigate the pace-breaking repetition of a standard jRPG grind. Combat is carried out by simply bumping your enemies, where the speed and direction of your attacks determine their effectiveness for a satisfying way to resolve conflicts and level up.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a reimagining of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. It brings the threequel into a 3D world with new combat mechanics, all focused on the spirit of non-stop action rather than item and skill management. Thanks to the self-contained story, you can feel safe starting your adventure right here.

Ys Origin is the most recent entry into the series, a prequel set 700 years before the events in Ys I & II Chronicles+. This is the title that perfects the many facets of the Ys formula, combining the best gameplay elements for what the developer's themselves call an "arcade-like RPG platformer with Metroidvania elements".

If you're looking for jRPG charm with action-RPG gameplay Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin are here to please, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, February 26th, at 10:59 AM GMT.

TWITCH STREAM SPECIAL
MegaPiemanPHD will be streaming the game live on twitch.tv/gogcom!

These are not your standard fare jRPGs, why? See for yourself - this Thursday, February 19th, 9pm GMT / 4pm EST / 1pm PST
Awesome additions, I think I like the look of Chronicles the best.

BTW, it's pronounced "Ease" for those unfamiliar with the series.

mistermumbles: Made me chuckle. You might want to edit that bolded part out. Just saying. ;)
If the features are present but disabled due to not having steam enabled (and work when steam is on) i'd wonder why? There's a decent chance it's the same executable...
Another good release, even if I know more about its nice music than the actual game lol.

never played these
hell, I've never seen them :P
I just wanted to thank GOG, XSEED, Falcom and whomever might have been involved in this for a great release! I played The Oath In Felghana and The Ark of Naphistim some years back, unfortunately via "less than legal means", using the community translation patches, and those two are some of my favourite video games ever made. It's really nice for me to be able to play at least one of them again -- Steam is a no go, for me, so I would never have bought the games over there -- and finally give Origin a try. I played a bit of the Ys I and II Chronicles+, but the bumping to attack mechanic of the original games felt... well, odd. Still great games that I highly recommend, but be prepared for that little bit of game design strangeness.

I understand the risk GOG took by releasing these games, as they're somewhat niche; action-RPG fans don't usually like JRPGs, and vice-versa; and the Ys series is one that mixes them all up, plus some platforming (albeit only in Felghana, based on the ones I played) and a bit of an arcade-y feel that is not usual in these kinds of games. Whether you like JRPGs or action-RPGs, be sure to give this series a try, it's likely they have something you'll love.

For me, it's insta-wishlist, since I'm way over-budget this month as it is, but I'll definitely buy them as soon as I get some money.
low rated
I already have the Ys games on Steam and Ys Origin DRM-Free from Humble Bundle so i'll pass. :D

Acriz: Steam's base price for Ys I and II Chronicles+ is 11,99€ for me, GoG's is 13,39€. Chances are low that I will by it from GoG :(
For only 1.40€ difference?
Well I own them on steam (never played) so next big sale I'll pick them up here.

Oh GOG how you punish us all. A while back we wanted new publishers and more games and now you are flooding us with good games. You've overloaded my oh good game on special must buy impulse to, I can't handle any more games.

The packaging / testing folks at GOG must be working overtime.
This is a great news for many. Those are excellent JRPGs ^_^
Anyway, finally it is great to see YS games on Gog. I remember some gamers was pleading XSEED to com GOG and they were saying "we are new in digital distribution, GOG maybe in future but now we are concentrating on Steam. Why don't you buy from Steam?" After that i didn't thought they will come to Gog ever but now the has come. Rejoice!
Guys, if you haven't played Oath in Felghana, you don't know how good life can be. That soundtrack, Jesus...

grinninglich: And what that "Ease(Ys)" means?
It was named because of the mythical Ys.
