Arcade-like action-jRPG platformer with Metroidvania elements.

Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin: a series of action-focused jRPGs, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 25% launch discount!

Ys I & II Chronicles+ is an enhanced release of the two that started it all. These classics feature a unique buttonless "bump" combat system, designed to mitigate the pace-breaking repetition of a standard jRPG grind. Combat is carried out by simply bumping your enemies, where the speed and direction of your attacks determine their effectiveness for a satisfying way to resolve conflicts and level up.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a reimagining of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. It brings the threequel into a 3D world with new combat mechanics, all focused on the spirit of non-stop action rather than item and skill management. Thanks to the self-contained story, you can feel safe starting your adventure right here.

Ys Origin is the most recent entry into the series, a prequel set 700 years before the events in Ys I & II Chronicles+. This is the title that perfects the many facets of the Ys formula, combining the best gameplay elements for what the developer's themselves call an "arcade-like RPG platformer with Metroidvania elements".

If you're looking for jRPG charm with action-RPG gameplay Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin are here to please, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, February 26th, at 10:59 AM GMT.

TWITCH STREAM SPECIAL
MegaPiemanPHD will be streaming the game live on twitch.tv/gogcom!

These are not your standard fare jRPGs, why? See for yourself - this Thursday, February 19th, 9pm GMT / 4pm EST / 1pm PST
And an instant purchase of the series for me.

February has seen GOG wage all out war on my finances, and emerge victorious. This round goes to you, sirs and madams.
Good releases.
Cool! Great JRPGS here <3
Love this series so much.
Heartfully recommended
Oh damn!
This is one of my top 10 fav. video game series of all time!

They're really Action RPGs, but are so simple, fun and epic.
Ys Oath in Felghana (Ys 3) was the very first game in a looooooooooooong time that made me feel like a badass.
Well, that was day one for me. Hopefully XSEED will bother to translate Ys: Memories of Celceta, Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, and Ys Seven. All actually have pc ports in China and Japan.
I dare you to listen to this and then not go and blindly buy all 3 games

Oh and XSEED is likely to release Ys 6 on PC later this year.
Finally a way to get Ys Chronicles and Oath in Felghana DRM-free! Will most likely be day-one purchase for me too even though I don't have time to play them just yet.

Any info on the gamepad support yet? Was asked earlier but never replied to.

I know Ys Origin works with Gamepad just fine.

They all work with gamepad.
At least the Steam versions did. ;)
Yes yes yes yes Ys!
I have been holding off buying from Steam and so very glad I did.

How come there is no awesome soundtrack as part of the freebies?

Thank you GOG!
In before people asking for Japanese language support: Don't waste your time. Nihon Falcom will NOT do it. They are convinced that they will not sell the games if they included Japanese. Despite people both in Japan and around the world asking them to provide Japanese language support.
Yay, they're finally here! ;-)

Unfortunately, assuming the games have had deeper discounts on Steam, I'm not sure that the 25% discount will be compelling enough for many people to take the plunge. Still, I certainly hope they sell well!
I remember trying the demo for one of these on Steam. I was having a lot of fun, up until the boss fight. Man, brutally difficult, and I consider myself decent (not great) at platforming. It seemed to require a lot of twitch reactions and memorization. Maybe I should give it another shot...

deonast: You've overloaded my oh good game on special must buy impulse to, I can't handle any more games.
Reached that point myself, and still trying to determine whether that is a good thing...

Regarding Ys: I played Wanders from Ys III on the SNES back in the day. It was a rental, but one that I felt was up there with Hydlide for the NES: I did not know what I was supposed to do or how, and in the days before the Internet not having a manual really left me hanging.

Needless to say, I did not come away with a good impression (in fact, I do not think I made it past the first screen once you start the game!). I obviously was not able to figure out how to play or what I needed to do to proceed.

Having said all of that, is this series worth picking up? Is it like Hydlide where combat is "bumping into enemies" as opposed to the more typical ARPG fare a la Zelda, Star Ocean, or any of the Tales games?
Ys I & II Chronicle is terrible, for you to attack the enemies you have to approach them and it will automatically attack them, i didn't play more than 20m (if much).

Oath in Felghana is awesome.

Ys Seven is REALLY awesome (hope that it gets a pc port someday for you folks to play)

And today i realized that i never played Ys Origin, i thought i played it on my psp but it was never released there. Uhm... Well, putting on my wishlist, like i said many times, i already have too much games to play before buying more games.
