I love GW. It's not really a MMORPG (like WoW for example), because all the areas are "instances", meaning that you'll never meet somebody else than your group and the mobs in the area. And that's perfectly fine for me! I've tried a lot of MMORPG and I hate to do a quest involving killing xxx mobs and having to wait because everybody is doing the same thing and is camping waiting for the mobs to respawn... Anyway, i hate the "kill xxx mobs of the abc type" quests and in GW, there aren't any as far as i can remember.
I play GW since it came out so yes, I've finished all the campaigns and Eye of the North. It's true that Prophecies lacks a little bit of charisma, visually speaking. But at least, in GW there is a scenario and a rather good one. Of course, it means that the first time you play GW, it's better to follow the scenario and not wander too much on the side, to avoid missing parts of the story (i remember that running from Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay in Prophecies can really spoil the scenario). But it gives also a lot of replayability to the game because there are tons of sidequests!
I generally play PvE and it's true that sometimes I have been angry to see the stupidity of my heroes and henchmen in battle (ahhh Orion and his always-too-late casting of spells, Dunkoro always forgetting to heal himself...). But still, playing GW solo is possible and you have quite a good range of possibilities : solo farming, running, classical PvE, PvP, Zaishen quests and bounty hunts, skills hunts, title completions, etc.
So yeah, even if now i must confess i'm waiting for GW2, I still play GW with lots of pleasure. It would be fun to play with people from GoG, but it might be a little bit tricky to me : I'm french, i live in Japan, but i play on french servers to play with my friends. But GW gives access to any server area, so joining a party on an american server might be possible.
Generally, you can find me ingame under the name of Klatch Mervan or Imra Indel
