is this worth getting games from compared to steam?
Well... Prices are in $, though most titles are REALLY overpriced... You don't need Impulse running while running Impulse games I think... I has pretty neat design... You actually CAN choose to update/not update without any kind of punishement for your sins... That's all that comes in mind right now :D
I had it for a while, it was neat, but nothing made me say "I must use this". Its one advantage over Steam is the fact that Impulse is not a DRM scheme in itself.
There are definite advantages over Steam, so I think its probably worth considering, yes.
Hmm... And they have nice discharges sometimes. Now there's Titan Quest and DoW: Dark Crusade for 4$ each
I adore Impulse, can't wait for it to grow to its potential.
I'd like to see that too, Vagabond, but I'm afraid Steam is too much of a competition
Let me order without a special client and I'm in :)
The only real advantage Steam has, as far as I can see, is it's been around longer and thus has a wider user base. I feel it's an inferior offering to Impulse (or what Impulse is hoping to become). But I'm likely biased, as I don't like Steam.
I use both. Impulse occasionally has better deals and also has a lot of titles that Steam will probably never bother to get.
And at least for me the interface runs a lot faster, unlike Steam that spends about 10-30 seconds checking for updates every time I start it and then turns around to spend another 10-30 seconds checking updates for all my games.
I would rather buy Titan Quest from gog one day than use Impulse. It is just another unnecessary third party piece of software that is not needed.
Would be great see Titan Quest here though.
I usually buy my games off of steam simply because they have a bigger catalog and I like to keep my games mostly in one place. When steam doesn't sell a game though, I usually check out Impulse. I bought the Supreme Commander Gold pack from them pretty cheap recently and when Demigod is released I'll probably be looking into getting that aswell.
what an insane deal.
I want to like Impulse, but I can tell it has a long way to go before it can rival Steam. Its sluggish, especially when I first open it, and the store is a pain to navigate.
Man, I almost bought Titan Quest from Impulse, but I cannot bring myself to use Impulse and be beholden to Stardock whenever I want to play or reinstall the game.
Come on gog get this game here for $5.99 and I will buy it.
