Matchstickman: To pit the doctor against the Daleks so soon after the last time is a big mistake in my opinion, where's the variety?

Dunno about you but this is the first Dalek episode I have been excited about since... well Dalek in series 1. RTD not only over used them but their writing has been terrible especially Daleks in Manhatten which was an abomination. The fact the Daleks are not in a season ender is a good sign.
I generally think that both the Daleks and the Cybermen have been overplayed.

Not when the season ender is another overused monster it isn't.
It was good to see the Sea Devils (yes, I did spot them; good call-back there Moffet) in the opening episode, gave me hope that they might use some of the Doctor's 'old' monster but when we get the Daleks as episode 3 I'm very disappointed in the choice.
That being said the story looks interesting, I just wished they'd waited longer before using it (That and the crappy link to the next episode, I hope that's not a permanent fixture).

It's the Silurians and yes they are back this season. TBH I would suggest you not watch the finale. Current rumors say the Cybermen will meet the Cybusmen. The Daleks, The Silurians, The Judoon, and the Atraxi have all been mentioned as being in the last episode.

bansama: Old enough to have seen near ever single available episode from the first one up until Colin Baker turned me off of them. And most of those were made long before I was born (I was born during Tom Baker's run =)).
Really? I thought Colin Baker was pretty good. It was the fellow who followed him that I felt ruined the series. My only problem with Colin's run was the overuse of the Master as his Chief Nemisis

No, I don't know what you were looking at but I saw the Sea Devils, they're in the blue memory thing of the Atraxi. (around 53.38)
(I had to go check before making my second post in this thread as I keep getting them mixed up with the Silurians; didn't help that when I was a kid I had a top trumps style game which had their pictures mixed up!)
As to the finale, if it has a good story, with good actors then I'll forget alot of old-doctor-who-fan style grumpiness on my part!
I quite enjoyed the episode - then again, I enjoy most episodes of Dr. Who.
Half-Life was on my mind with a certain part of the episode.
Another solid episode although it was pretty obvious from the first five minutes the 'secret' would be that they're using/abusing a creature to travel. Never mind the title.

Regarding the Daleks, I'm glad they're getting through them so early; they've been over-used (from an appearance every 3 seasons or so to one ever 3 episodes) and come back just as a fan-pleaser more than anything else.
By showing them this early I have hope that they'll show new and interesting enemies and concentrate on them instead of the salt & pepper shakers.
The thing I disliked so far is how much hand-holding they do regarding the crack: they stayed around 3 seconds on the monitor in the TARDIS in the first episode where the crack was shown and then on the ship again. I would of preferred if it was something subtle that will be revealed to great effect in the end instead of being telegraphed by far that "OMG, teh crack is important!".
I really like the new episodes. I didn't like any of the previous shows (I just found them very annoying, stopped watching after someone hugged a Dalek) but despite these episodes having just the same lack of a real plot and the most pointless and innapropiate soundtrack I've ever heard, I really liked them. The Matt Smith and his assisstant are much more likable than the previous ones (in my opinion).

I assume you are talking about the episode 'Dalek'. You really missed out there it was really well written and Chris Eccleston was on top form.

I dunno. I also watched the Christmas Specials. None of them really convinced me to watch the rest of the series. They didn't really have much substance. (also I found them a bit annoying)

The Christmas specials are just that. Not really to be taken seriously. They are to be watched while drunk and stuffed to bursting with turkey, ham and roast potatoes. I mean Kylie Minogue... what were you expecting? High drama?

evilguy12: No, just they were kinda lame. Mostly about the special effects and screaming. (I didn't see that Kylie Minogue one, saw a SPIDER QUEEN one and an OOD one).
(I'm also too young to be consuming alcohol, ha ha).

Consider yourself lucky. Voyage of the Damned is not well regarded even by the staunchest Russel T Davies fan.
